Anyone want Netflix? Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

So, got some free month passes for Netflix. If anyone wants one, let me know, you’ll get a free month of Netflix (just cancel after the first month if you don’t want to keep it), and I’ll get a free extra movie from my queue. I’ve got four passes, so, let me know.

Took a test:

The Introvert-Extrovert Test.

Kind of what I was expecting. I do think I tend to be a bit more on the extroverted side, although I can certainly be introverted on occasion. I can be happy by myself and it usually takes a while for me to get bored, but I’d rather hang out with Jillian or a friend or something then sit at home and work on a project, given the opportunity.

As far as the meeting questions go, sometimes I wish I had less, so I could get some damn work done! Seriously, seems like too much time is spent in meetings. If I ever decide to manage a team, I’m gonna cut down on the meetings, get an update with everyone separate and just have a standing meeting where we quickly run through some action items and general updates or something.

Blah, back to work.

I finished reading Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows late Monday night. Great book and great end to the series. I then realized it really *is* the last of the HP series, that it has all come to an end, and felt a little sad at that thought. Great series, and I’ll definitely read them all many times again in the future, and hope some day that Jilly’s and my children will enjoy them as thoroughly as we have.

Also saw the latest HP movie with Adam and Jared the other night. The most fun of it was reminiscing of old times, crazy Mrs. Rose, Adam and I in middle school and such. The movie was pretty good too, especially the big wizard fight scene at the end. I can’t wait to see how they do the siege of Hogwarts in the final movie; reading it, I was reminded of the epic battle of Helmsdeep. Course, the movie probably only had 20-25% of what was in the book, as was to be expected.

Work at ON Semiconductor continues to go well. The latest project is coming together. I’ve been doing a lot of work looking at error amplifier performance, using network analyzers, getting Bode plots and making sure the DC and AC results are up to specification. My boss is going to have me write up a white paper about error amp measurement, with the intent of getting it published. Very cool.

Very excited about the upcoming Symphony X concert. I’ve been listening and re-listening to their entire discography over the last month and can’t wait; it’s going to be awesome.

Just saw Pan’s Labyrinth last night. Great movie. Had a considerable amount of unexpected violence and gore, and quite a few disturbing images, all of which Jilly and I thoroughly enjoyed. I saw on IMDB that a bunch of people where dismissing the movie, claiming it was a gorefest. They miss out on all of the beautiful imagery and the excellent story and character development, because they are worried about seeing a little blood, or, even worse, they complain that the film is subtitled (audio is in Spanish). Excellent film, I’d netflix it again some time.

Was just reading in Freethought Today that a Newsweek poll found that 48% of Americans reject the theory of evolution by natural selection, opting to believe in that ridiculous creationist myth. They found that even 35% of college graduates said they accept the “biblical account of creation as fact.” Just ridiculous. I have heard of other studies, however, mentioned in The God Delusion, that around 90% of scientists do not believe in God, only two Nobel prize winners weren’t atheists (and one was almost) and that atheists are in the higher percentile of IQ, on average. Sad the plebian masses still hold on to such a ludicrous notion and gladly push their beliefs on others through politics. Us atheists need to unite, stand up and start some fires under people’s shoes to get them to reject faith as a way of life, to be skeptical and question and think!

And how can people nowadays even reject the theory of evolution? Seriously, it is so patently obvious and there are mountains of substantiated evidence supporting it. The other side? Nothing, except some contradicting scribblings in an ancient book which advocates genocide, rape, genital mutilation, racism, sexism, torture, murder and more. I’m sticking with the scientists, thank you very much.
